Spring Capsule Wardrobe Challenge...

Jane over at The Small Fabric of My Life has kicked off yet another Capsule Wardrobe Challenge, and this is my first time participating!
I'm sure most of you are quite familiar with the challenge, since most bloggers seem to participate, but in case you haven't heard about it, the rules are simple:
Choose ten items of clothing from your wardrobe and mix and match them for five days between Monday March 1st and Friday March 5th.
You can have any combination of shoes, dresses, skirts, tops and jackets as long as it adds up to ten individual items.
You are also allowed five accessories which include jewelery, scarves, bag, belts etc.
Underwear and hosiery do not come under the ten items and five accessories!

In addition, because it is freakishly snowy in so many parts of the country at the moment, she added this addendum to the rules:
In addition to your ten items and five accessories you are permitted one functional coat, one pair of functional gloves or mittens, one functional hat, one functional scarf and one functional pair of snow boots or other essential footwear needed to get from A to B without your feet freezing off!

With no further ado, I present to you the ten wardrobe items I will be using for this challenge:

wrap-dress
Blue Wrap Dress: Moda International, swapped

gray-pants
Gray Pants: NY&Co

floral-skirt
Floral Skirt: Old Navy

blue-floral-blouse
Blue Floral Blouse: Old Navy

green-sweater
Green Sweater: Marshalls?

green-button-up
Green Button-Up: Merona, thrifted

cowl-neck
Gray Cowl Neck Top: NY&Co

vest
Gray Vest: H&M

purple-heels
Purple Heels: Vera Wang for Kohl's

green-flats
Green Flats: Urban Outfitters

And here are my five accessories:

purse
Purse: Nine West via Marshalls

scarf-closeup
Scarf: Laila Rowe

green-dangly
Green Dangly Earrings: Body Central

hoops
Hematite Hoops: NY&Co

belt
Black Stretch Belt: Marshalls?

I really tried to make an effort not to fall back onto all neutrals, so I based my outfits mainly on blues and greens. For the neutrals I did use, I wanted to NOT use black; hence the gray pieces. I've always thought gray adds a certain depth to an outfit.

I really look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with for this challenge!

  1. I love the grip on the bottom of those heels! Did you get them put on? The practical (read "unbalanced in high heels") side of me has fallen in love with them for that reason alone! I will add you to my link of participants in my post about this challenge and watch with interest!

  2. the shoes actually came that way, complete with their own grip!
i also have issues with heels a lot of the time. i have terrible balance, so i am often wobbly, and they hurt my feet after just a few minutes.
these shoes, however, are actually pretty comfortable. and totally cute!

  3. Love that ON floral skirt and I have that same ON floral top! Can't wait to see how you remix it all together this week.

P.S. I totally failed at incorporating patterns into my capsule wardrobe!

  4. Kimberly -- Funny enough, I have considered parting ways with that skirt many times. It is SO girly and very lightweight, but I keep trying to make it work for my personality. I love it as a way to break up the solid colors for this week! I think it will be making its first appearance tomorrow...

  5. Great mix of items! I also try to avoid black (but one piece always seems to sneak in) for the wardrobe challenges. I did a grey dress this year, with brown accessories, which is a real step outside my own comfort zone.

I LOVE that skirt. Love, love love!

  6. Looks like a wonderful mix, and that is awesome that you were able to branch out from your typical neutrals. I look forward to seeing your capsule combinations throughout the week, particularly with that beautiful, printed skirt!
