Last week, when watching the last few minutes of Tyra (I often catch the last few minutes of Tyra, Oprah, and the Doctors when I get home from work and will watch whichever one is most appealing) she spoke with a young lady who came up with an app for the iphone that is designed to help fashionistas plan outfits and weed through their wardrobe.
Now, I don't have an iphone, but I do have a smartphone that has the option of downloading apps, so I listened up.
Basically, you take photos of all the pieces of your wardrobe, either on the phone, or with your camera (you can transfer the photos to your phone via a number of methods). You can customize groups such as "dresses," "outerwear," "red items," or any which way you like to compartmentalize your own wardrobe -- it's all up to you.
Using the photos you have in your "closet," you can pull items and create outfits, similar to the method used in polyvore. Once an outfit is created, you can save that image to use as inspiration.
An added benefit is that, with pics of all of your wardrobe pieces contained in one app on your phone, there's no more chance of accidentally buying a duplicate wardrobe item -- just check your phone to see if you already have something like it.
So, I'm watching the girl explain this app, and I couldn't help but think how handy it would be. True, there would be a decent amount of maintenance involved -- photographing all new items and deleting anything thrown out or given away -- but how handy would it be to be able to plan out your outfits for the week while riding the train to work? Or how many times have you gotten inspiration for an outfit when you're not at home? Just pull out your phone and create an inspiration collage!
Would you use an app like this if it was available to you? Why or why not?
Sure, I'd use it. I agree there would be some work involved, but its not to bad. I guess the worst part would be the initial set up. After that, its a breeze.
ReplyDeleteI do have an iPhone... I am interested, although it would take a long time to get the stuff I already have in my phone. Do you know the name of it?
ReplyDeletei believe it was called StyleBug (not sure if that's supposed to be one or two words.
ReplyDeletei tried to find it in the Droid marketplace, but i couldn't find it, so i am guessing that at this point, it is limited to iphone only.
